The Area of Construction Land Use Decreased 18.9% in China

The area of construction land use per unit of GDP in China decreased 18.9% over five years by 2022, as the country aims to save resources and protect the environment. Minister of Natural Resources, Wang Guanghua, shared these developments during a forum on natural resources and ecological civilization. China has ensured a natural coastline retention rate of at least 35% through strict control of sea reclamation. The government has also supported the growth of clean energy, such as photovoltaic and wind power, as part of its efforts to peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. China has implemented an integrated protection and restoration project for various natural assets, including mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasslands, and sand. The total treatment area has reached 80 million mu (about 5.33 million hectares) in recent years. The country has also completed the ecological restoration of abandoned mines, renovated coastlines, repaired coastal wetlands, and increased its area of mangroves. Source: Xinhua
