UAE’s COP28 Changemakers Majlis Highlights Nature-Based Solutions

The latest session of the COP28 Changemakers Majlis, organized by the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE), took place in Umm Al Quwain. The event, part of a series leading up to COP28, focused on the crucial role of nature-based solutions in addressing climate change. H.E. Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, emphasized the power of nature-based solutions in mitigating climate impacts, citing Umm Al Quwain’s commitment to planting 100 million mangrove trees by 2030.

The session featured leaders from various sectors, including H.E. Ahmed Ibrahim Obaid Al Ali, H.E. Ali Ahmed Ali Abu Ghazin, and H.E. Ahmed Al Hashmi. Discussions centered around the importance of mangroves and coral reefs as natural barriers against sea-level rise. The participants highlighted the need for cooperation, research, and effective policy implementation to ensure the success of nature-based solutions.
