“Cleanup Efforts in Mangrove Swamp”

Laucala Beach residents, Kinoya Village youths, and the Nasinu Town Council are working together to clean up the nearby mangrove swamp. However, there is still a lot of work to be done to prevent people from dumping rubbish. Dr. Rajesh Maharaj, who organized the cleanup, has noticed a significant amount of plastic and trash floating under the Bailey Bridge, which covers the river. This waste comes from Laucala Beach, Caubati, and Kinoya areas, where people throw rubbish in drains and on roadsides. In just one hour, they collected 30 garbage bags of waste, with more than 100 bags still needing to be collected. The team also cleaned up a drain near a well-known supermarket in Flagstaff, which was filled with plastic bottles. Dr. Maharaj’s goal is to raise awareness and educate people on proper waste disposal to prevent further damage to the marine ecosystem, upon which many people rely.
