Protecting Mangroves: KPC and KFS Collaboration

Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) has teamed up with Kenya Forest Service (KFS) to protect mangroves along Tudor Creek in Mombasa. As part of KPC’s 50th anniversary celebration, over 60,000 mangroves were planted by KPC, KFS, KDF, and Community Forest Associations (CFA) staff on a degraded area of 50 hectares. The goal is to accelerate tree planting in different locations across Kenya for ten years to help achieve the national target of 30% tree cover by 2032. This week, a total of 61,500 trees were planted in Tudor Creek with the help of five CFAs, who supplied the seedlings and labor. Over the past three years, KPC has already grown 500,000 trees through this partnership. By conserving mangrove forests, which serve as breeding grounds for fish, the hope is to promote an increase in the fish population in the ocean.
