Environmental Murder: Wetland Damage Violates International Agreements


Environmental technicians have warned that damage to a wetland area in Samaná, Dominican Republic violates international agreements, including the Ramsar Convention. The survey conducted by the Ministry of the Environment showed that the mangroves in the area were cut down and seemed to be affected by chemical damage. The affected area covers more than 188,700 square meters. The incident has been described as an environmental murder and ecocide. Senator Pedro Catrain has called for an investigation to identify and hold those responsible accountable for this ecological crime and to protect the mangroves as a natural habitat and fragile ecosystem.
