The Importance of Reforesting Mangrove Sites
One Meralco Foundation (OMF) planted and nurtured 125,000 native mangroves in Del Carmen, Siargao Islands, Surigao del Norte, in celebration of World Wetlands Day. This project, in partnership with the local government and KAMAMANA organization, aims to highlight the importance of wetlands in the area. The Del Carmen Mangrove Forest Reserve, spanning 4,800 hectares, is one of the largest in the country. This reforestation effort will provide livelihood and income to KAMAMANA members and their families. OMF has committed to reforesting mangrove sites as part of their sustainability efforts since 2022, with 2,330,729 trees planted so far. This initiative not only helps protect the environment but also benefits the community by mitigating the effects of global warming and climate change.
