The MPIC is intended to serve as a center for the protection and propagation of mangrove trees in the coastal areas, including the rehabilitation of degraded mangroves in Cordova. Cordova is estimated to have around 200 hectares of mangroves. The MPIC will also provide information to locals and tourists in order to appreciate the importance and benefits of mangroves in the ecosystem.
