Mowilex Achieves Tree Planting Goal in Multiple Locations.

Mowilex, a prominent producer of premium paints and wood coatings, has fulfilled its pledge to plant 50,000 mangrove trees by successfully establishing 25,000 trees in West Kalimantan. This initiative follows the planting of 25,000 mangroves in Bali, North Sumatra, and Belitung. The mangroves planted along the Kupah River in West Kalimantan will serve various purposes, including supporting local communities, preventing beach erosion, controlling flooding, storing carbon, and providing a habitat for biodiversity.

PT Mowilex Indonesia partnered with Rudi Hartono, an environmental advocate and winner of the Indonesia Ministry of Environment and Forestrys 2022 Kalpataru Award, to carry out this project in Sungai Kupah, West Kalimantan. Hartonos dedication to protecting and replanting mangrove forests in the area made him a natural choice for the partnership. It is estimated that 35% of global mangrove forests were lost between 1980 and 2000, with the Kupah River region in West Kalimantan experiencing significant deforestation due to shrimp farms, construction, and charcoal production. Mangroves play a crucial role in mitigating flood risks, reducing beach erosion, and serving as a natural filter for pollutants.

The support provided by Mowilex in replanting mangroves not only helps to safeguard the environment but also creates economic opportunities for the residents of Kupah River Village. The harvested mangrove seedlings can be sold, and products such as soap, shrimp, crabs, and fish can be derived from the mangroves, generating income for the local community. Mowilexs commitment to environmental sustainability extends beyond carbon neutrality, as they aim to address community needs through initiatives like tree planting.

Prior to the West Kalimantan project, Mowilex had already planted 5,000 mangroves near the Tukad Mati River in Bali, 10,000 mangroves in Pasar Rawa Village, Langkat, North Sumatra, and 10,000 mangroves in Juru Seberang Village, Belitung. Each of these projects has contributed to enhancing local ecosystems and benefiting the surrounding communities. Mowilex has been certified as Indonesias first carbon neutral manufacturer since 2019 and is on track to receive its fifth consecutive certification in 2023.

PT Mowilex Indonesia remains committed to its mission of producing premium paints and coatings while upholding environmental ethics, promoting equality, benefiting communities, and fostering innovation.
