Mangrove forests play a crucial role in protecting the UAEs coastlines, providing habitats for marine species, and acting as natural carbon sinks. Currently, the UAE is home to 60 million mangrove trees, covering an area of 183 square kilometers and capturing 43,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. By adding 100 million mangrove trees, the total coverage will reach 483 square kilometers, capturing 115,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year. Mangrove trees are highly effective in capturing and storing carbon emissions, with studies showing their ability to capture carbon emissions up to 4-5 times that of terrestrial ecosystems. Moreover, mangrove trees are essential for marine species, as 80% of global fish species rely on mangroves for survival. source=zawya.com
