Minimizing Impact, Maximizing Enjoyment

Bacalar Eco-Park, designed by Colectivo C733, is a project located in Bacalar, Mexico. The park is situated next to the Bacalar Lagoon, which is known for being the largest freshwater bacterial reef in the world and home to living stromatolites. The main focus of the design was to minimize the impact on the natural environment while still providing an enjoyable space for visitors. The park features a square dock that is built to avoid affecting the mangroves and trees, and allows for easy access to the lagoon. The architecture is constructed using local and certified chicozapote wood, creating an efficient and sustainable structure. The park also incorporates landscape strategies to mitigate water pollution and rehabilitate degraded mangroves. The park includes a scaled museography timeline that educates visitors about the region s unique biodiversity and encourages conservation and social engagement.
